My personal view on this is a recommendation for you to not buy this book on audible. This is a very, very basic book around goal setting. Instead of just plotting out what you’d like to achieve Danielle LaPorte invites us to plot out how we’d like to feel. And that’s it. I’ve just saved you six hours of listening time. I liked the notion of goal setting this way and so before even purchasing the book I decided to sit down with my journal and write down my emotional ambitions. I then painfully listened to the book (and my goodness it took all willpower to keep persevering out of sheer respect) and 6 hours later my list hasn’t changed nor has my mind grown in any way (although I've probably saved myself the need of checking my thesaurus for some new positive adjectives!). If you need help working through this process buy the hard back book and do it one afternoon/evening in a quiet moment of reflection but do not waste time on the audio version. There is so much white space where Danielle pauses apparently for us to think about a theme eg ‘Relationships - how do you want your relationships to feeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllll tomorrow?’ that I kept thinking the audio was lagging and restarted the flow, but no, she has just elongated the recording for the value perception I can only assume ie if I max out the length of the recording prospective buyers will assume they’re getting masses of quality content here . I’m sorry that this is my first negative book review on the site. Maybe this would work better as a meditation audio, and maybe it's meant to be listened to in a candle lit room with incense burning and you sitting in a yogic position. This woman adores the sound of her own voice, isn’t really teaching us anything and this could be a paragraph of instruction definitely not an entire. Maybe the accompanying diaries and journals are brilliantly inspiring. And perhaps for you she may be irresistible. So, don’t necessarily take my word for it, try the audible taster clip and follow your intuition.
The Official Book Blurb for The Desire Map: A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul by Danielle LaPorte
Danielle LaPorte turns the relationship to goal-setting inside out. She provides hands-on tools to help you first and foremost identify your core desired feelings, and then create practical 'Goals with Soul' to generate those feelings. By chasing the feeling versus the goal, she empowers you to forge substantial life changes that reflect your intrinsic nature and alleviate suffering. The result: you'll do much less proving, and way more living.
Your bucket list. Quarterly objectives. Strategic plans. Big dreams. Goals. Lots of goals and plans to achieve those goals—no matter what. Except …
You're not chasing the goal itself, you're actually chasing the feeling that you hope achieving that goal will give you.
Which means we have the procedures of achievement upside down. We go after the stuff we want to have, get, or accomplish, and we hope that we'll be fulfilled when we get there. It's backwards. And it's burning us out.
So what if you first got clear on how you actually wanted to feel in your life, and then created some "Goals with Soul"?
With The Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte brings you a holistic life-planning tool that will revolutionize the way you go after what you want in life. Unapologetically passionate and with plenty of warm wit, LaPorte turns the concept of ambition inside out and offers an inspired, refreshingly practical workbook for using the Desire Map process:
- Identify your "core desired feelings" in every life domain: livelihood & lifestyle, body & wellness, creativity & learning, relationships & society, and essence & spirituality
- Create practical "Goals with Soul" to generate your core desired feelings
- Why easing up on your expectations actually liberates you to reach your goals
- Self-assessment quizzes, worksheets, and complete Desire Mapping tools for creating the life you truly long for
Goal-setting just got a makeover.
There are more than 10,000 "Desire Mappers" who have worked through this system. "Every day I get stories about inner clarity, quitting jobs, dumping the chump, renewing vows, pole-dancing classes, writing memoirs, moving on," says Danielle. "This is about liberation. And pleasure. And self-determination. This is about doing much less proving, and way more living."
If you've had enough of trying to trick yourself into happiness through affirmations or bucket-listing your hopes into some distant future, then you're ready for The Desire Map—a dream-fulfilling system that harnesses your soul-deep desire to feel good.PURCHASE ON AMAZON PURCHASE 2018 PLANNER ON AMAZON
